In belt steel rolling processes, the vibration of hot tandem rolling mill is comprehensive and common phenomenon. Vibration is easy to accelerate to destroy equipments, improve the cost of production, reduce product quality and quantity and economical benefit. Therefore, vibration research on hot tandem rolling mill is of great practical significance.The paper bases on spot and actual vibration condition of 2150 hot tandem rolling mill. Firstly using FEM to analyze the dynamics characteristic of frame and find the natural frequency and primary vibration models of typical modality. By using analysis the natural frequency of typical modality is calculated and compared with the results of FEM, which validates the correctness of FEM and provides the handy and applied method of estimating structural natural frequency.In studying the self-excited vibration, the mechanical method of frictional vibration is established and relative curve of frictional force and velocity is confirmed. By using phase plane method the self-excited vibration is qualitatively analyzed and producing condition of limit cycles is confirmed.From vertical and frictional chatter the chatter mechanism is studied. In the vertical chatter, after basing on the mechanics model of vertical chatter and movement differential equation of system, mechanism of production and influencing factors of third-octave mode and reasons of production and restraining measures of fifth-octave mode are studied. In the frictional chatter, after studying influencing factors and restraining measures and analyzing the horizontal vibration of strip steel by using the theory of frictional chatter, the movement equation of strip steel' s horizontal vibration in deformed area is obtained. After analyzing the lateral vibration of strip steel by using Mathieu equation, its vibration equation and natural frequency is obtained.The studies of this paper are not only significant for the development and consummation of vibration theory about cold tandem rolling mill. Also, it is practical and valuable for applying the theory to the production.
