Chatter vibration is a major obstacle in achieving desired productivity,which results in a poor surface finish,high-pitch noise and accelerated tool wear which in turn reduces machine tool life.The chatter stability prediction of turning process can significantly improve cutting efficient without losing machining quality,and it can make full use of the lathe.Therefore,the chatter prediction of turning process has great realistic meaning.The main research contents of this paper are as follows:(1)The background,significance,current situation and development tendency of the chatter prediction for machine process are introduced in recent years.The research on the chatter prediction of machine process mainly includes the research of the mechanism and model and the control of the chatter.The perfect chatter dynamics and process damping are the hot and difficult program in the field of recent flutter prediction.The accuracy of chatter prediction,the timeliness and the validity of chatter control will be the most important problem in the future reaserch.(2)The turning process is briefly introduced and the regenerative chatter mechanism of turning process is also researched.The single degree of freedom plunge turning dynamic model is established.The FRF of tool point is achieved with dynamic differential equation of turning process system.The turning stability lobes diagram(SLD)including rotation rate(?)and limit cutting width(blim)is deduced by prospective single degree of freedom method.Moreover,the mechanism of process damping is introduced in detail.The stability lobes diagram which taking into account the effect of process damping and the damping fore are studied.The whole of theoretical analysis provide theoretical basis for the development of software.(3)The functional requirements and performance requirements of the software for turning chatter stability prediction are analyzed so that the design thought and structure of software are clear.The software is developed by C#language.(4)According to the theory of regenerative chatter stability analysis,the software for chatter stability prediction is developed relaying on Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 by C#.The software can be used to predict the turning chatter efficiently and accurately by drawing stability lobes diagram.(5)The C#class which can calculate the chatter stability lobes diagram is developed in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010.It is developed independently,which can be maintained and extended easily in the future.(6)The use of the software for turning chatter stability prediction is introduced in detail at four aspects that the application environment,composition and connection of the hardware,acquisition part of application and analysis part of application.(7)The frequency response functions are obtained by testing the frequency response function of tool point of the CJ0625 horizontal lathe and the CNC lathe.Then the stability lobes diagrams of turning process are achieved by the software.Moreover,turning experiments are carried out on a kind of 45#steel to test the veracity of the software.Compared the result of prediction with the experimental result,the predicted result is in agreement with the experiment result.
