The oil shale residue is the waste in the oil shale production. At present, the oil shale residue has been utilized partly by our country, but the majority is piled up in the open, and causes the pollution of the atmosphere, water body and soil.It is the aggregate of moisture aluminum silicate mineral that many kinds of mineral make up, the main useful component part is the aluminum oxide and silica. In order to exploit and utilize oil shale effectively, it is the best way to combine oil refining, chemicals production, generation of electricity, metal refining and building materials production into a whole multipurpose utilization. The oil shale industrialization of China will come true in a middle long term with great development prospect. Because aluminum oxide particle has specific physical chemistry nature, the use is extremely extensive. It has already utilized in some industrial department to play a more and more important role in national economy.In this paper the extraction process of alumina from oil shale residue and the preparation of nanoparticle alumina were introduced. Thesis studies on using the oil shale residue from Huadian Jilin in China to produce aluminum salt and adopting carbonation method for produc- ing nanometers Al2O3.The results showed that the purity of aluminous was more than 99.24%,and the extraction rate was high.Through continuous carbon- ation, some varieties of qualified non-metallurgical aluminum hydroxide are obtained in production scale. The influence factors, such as pH values of solution, concentration of reactive solution and content of dispersant, on the size of alumina nanometers were investigated. The characteristic of powders was performed by TG/DTA, XRD, SEM and TEM analysis instrument. The nanoparticle alumina has advent- ages of small particle size, fine dispensability, high purity, high specif- ic surface.
