β-phenylethanol.(also known as 2-phenylethanol and.PEA)is aromatic alcohols with the aroma of roses. It is widely applied in various industrial fields, such as medicament, food, cosmetic, tobacco, and chemical. At present,β-phenylethanol synthesis with the benzene-oxirane craft account for 40%of market share. The traditional craft ofβ-phenylethanol uses the typical Friedel-Crafts Reaction. This craftwork is characterized by simple process, cheap materials, low requirement of equipments and less investment, however,it has some shortcomings, such as serious waste of raw materials, using large amount of catalyst, producing much by-products,requesting filling pressure, and the use of protective gas. This thesis made some improvements aimed at deficiencies above, which could be divided into two aspects as followed:①It made the reactions carried out under the atmospheric conditions and non-use of protective gas.②It contributed to reducing the amount of catalyst, improving the selectivity of reaction, and raising utilization of raw materials. In the research, single factor experiments and orthogonal L9(33)experiment was applied to selected the optimum technology, and fixing the yield ofβ-phenylethanol as index. In the single factor experiments,we examined the effect of relevant factors on the yield ofβ-phenylethanol,such as adding amount(benzene, oxirane, and catalyst),reaction time and temperature. The optimum condition were, respectively, the molar ration:n(benzene):n(AlCl3):n(oxirane)=1∶0.30∶0.20.The reaction temperature was 6-9℃and reaction time about 30 min.Based on the single factor experiments, the optimum technology was selected by using of orthogonal L9(33)experiment.The optimal technclogy is n(benzene):n(catalyst):n(oxriane)=1.0∶0.4∶0.25.The yield of the product is high about 55.6%.
