Embeded system is one of the most rapid developing technologies recently. It is a kind of special application-oriented computer system . It can meet the strict requirement of function ,reliability, cost, volume, and power consumption by adjusting its hardware and software. Compared with traditional single-chip computer and PC system, embedded system integrates with their benefits. Embedded system not only has characters of low costs, small volume and low power consumption, which is character of single-chip computer, but also has character of PC system, such as good developing environment, abundant resources, possessing operating systems and friendly user interface. Therefore, embedded systems will have a good development future in the field of CNC.Supported by scientific projects of Hubei province (2007AA101C19) and scientific projects of Wuhan city (20061009134-06).This paper designs a Embeded CNC system based on ARM ,has comleted a circuit design and debugging of the system hardware. It's a new attempt to research on a four axes numerical control system that is low cost and high capability.Firstly, this paper introduces the development status quo, the future and application of the CNC System .Then the paper introduces the characteristics of Embedded system and analyses the functional requitments of Embedded CNC system. With in-depth study of embedded system and numerical control technology, the author proposes an overall scheme for numerical control system based on ARM and movement control chip.And as well, sets up a hardware platform based on S3C2410 and MCX314.This hardware platform are consisted of two parts,one is ARM system,the other is movement control system.The ARM system include :CPU modulle, memory modules, debugging interface module,the RS-232 module,USB module,LCD manifestation module and key board module.The movement control include: principal axis drive,oher axis drive circuit, photoelectricity coupling feedback circuit.Lastly,author test the modules. This system only has advantages of high reliability,high performance, but also can be transplanted and trimmed so well as to modify function conveniently according to user's requirements. This topic which is the ARM used in CNC invovle the embedded and numerical control technology. The experimental results demonstrate that this system only has advantages of high reliability,high performance,but also can be transplanted and trimmed so well as to modify function. the performance of this system has achieved all expected goals..
