The coking process produced amount of high additive value byproducts except for the coke, The coke oven gas was one of the byproducts, which mainly included H2,CH4,CO and so on, still included a small quantity of other matters which included N2,CO2,H2S,O2,NH3,CS2,CnHn and so on. WISCO annually produced about 2 billion m3 volume of coke oven gas, If the volume ratio of hydrogen in the coke oven gas was about 56%, WISCO would annually produced about 1.2 billion volume of hydrogen. Hydrogen was a precious resource which had widely been used as a reducing agent in chemical industries; and the high pure hydrogen which was used as hydrogen energy of Fuel Cell Vehicles was more important. It was very wasteful that hydrogen was only used as a common fuel. Hereby, hydrogen separated from the coke oven gas, which was effectively utilized, had practical meaning for coking plant, the hydrogen separation from coke oven gas could increase the additive value of product in the coking plant and save energy. This paper evaluated the advantages, disadvantages and economics of hydrogen separation technique, then put forward a way of the experimentation separating hydrogen at the first time. The experiment, which separated hydrogen from coke oven gas by using membrane technology, had been used for preparation of palladium or palladium alloy membrane on a porous ceram(?)c support by electroless plating with efforts of osmosis. The morphology and microstructure of the palladium film was imaged using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The film thickness was also measured with SEM. The palladium membrane was evaluated for defects in gas-tightness and permeation tests performed with hydrogen separation apparatus. The velocity of gas about the side of pure hydrogen and the side of tail gas from coke oven gas separation was measured by the soap foam fiowmeter. The hydrogen content of the sides of pure hydrogen and tail gas were analysed by the gas chromatography. The simulated coke oven gas was used for the experiment of hydrogen separation, in order to find out the influences of the operated factors, including temperature, pressure and velocity of tail gas of coke oven gas in the membrane tube, on hydrogen separation efficiency and purity. And then, the actual coke oven gas was used for testing the the experiment of hydrogen separation. The result indicated that the hydrogen purity would be up to more than 99%, at 2.0bar, 397℃and the velocity of tail gas (176mL/min).
