To make pig iron is a key process of a modern large iron and steel enterprise, and to produce superior and low consuming iron is the important link of the value chain in the enterprise. To satisfy the development strategy of exploring high quality and additional worth products, and to meet the needs of producing super pure steel, iron-making workers should analyze the factors that influence the iron quality, and take effective measures to improve iron quality.In this paper, the state of iron quality of Baosteel branch is evaluated by using quality management tools. The factors that affect the pig iron quality, especially the quantity in iron with silicon and sulfur, are analyzed by using the principle of iron making thermodynamics and dynamics. On the basis of that, through multivariate regression analysis and some other related mathematics methods, the history data is quantitatively analyzed and the model to forecast iron quality is set up. The key variables to decide iron quality in the present condition are disclosed, the measures to control pig iron quality are discriminated, and the effective ways to improve its quality are explored. As a result, the production process of blast furnace is improved, and the pig iron quality is remarkably raised, which has led to great economic benefit.
