Polymer/Carbon nano tube, as novel type of nano-composite, will show great advantage, such as mechanical, electrical, and other physical properties over common polymers, therefore the preparation, structure, and physical properties of polymer/carbon nanotube had been attracting a lot of interests of aboard and domestic scientists. In our study, the multi-wall carbon nano tube(MWNTs) was reacted with a mixed acid derived by H2SO4 and HNO3 in order to introduce hydroxyl groups to MWNTs backbone, afterward, the poly-acryloyl chloride was induce to the hydroxyl groups in MWNTs, thus, the MWNTs-polyacryloyl chloride was prepared. In addition, PET was graft into MWNTs-polyacryloyl chloride, consequently, PET-CNTs nano composite was prepared by this ester reaction.SEM, TEM, NMR, XPS, GPC, FTIR and TGA was employed to investigate the graft reaction and the structure of grafted polymer. The relationship between prepare condition, structure of grafted polymer, and reaction efficiency was discussed, respectively. It was demonstrate that MWNT-PET covalent graft reaction can be achieved by the following three steps: acid treatment of MWNTs, poly-acryloyl chloride graft to acid treated MWNTs, and PET graft into MWNTs-polyacryloyl chloride. The efficiency of, amounts up to 96%.
