The electrical discharge machine is one of the most important equipments in the field of precision mold manufacturing, it plays an important role in moid industry. The modern mold manufacturing requests higher precision of specification after processing of electrical discharge machine, the performance of pulse power will influence the processing quality and the efficiency directly, so to design a pulse power reasonably has the important meaning to electrical discharge machine's processing quality and the efficiency.This paper focus on the pulse power of electrical discharge machine, the main circuit, gap condition recognition system and the control system has been designed. The primary contents as below:1,The influence of some related parameters of the power on processing velocity and surface roughness has been analyzed, the main circuit including the rectification filter circuit, the power actuation and the power tube protection circuit of the pulse power has been designed, it's output voltage is 120V.2,Because most of the conventional spark gap condition examination method are based on voltage condition recognition and electric current condition recognition, so the recognition rate of accuracy of these method is not very well. In this paper, a signal gap condition recognition system which using two kinds of the gap voltage and the summit current's simultaneously has been designed and confirmed that this system could distinguish the gap discharge condition accurately via MATLAB.3,The pulse power's control system uses two cascade control structure including upper computer and lower control module, the upper control software has been developed by LabWindows/CVI which has the function of man-machine interaction and data pretreatment. The lower control has been controlled by 89C52 singlechip, it's circuit modules including pulse width control, pulse spacing control, power failure examination, short circuit examination and so on, controlling parameters automatic usually completed by these circuit modules.4,In this paper, the manufacture experiment of pulse power has been designed at last and then compare with the regular pulse power. The results demonstrate that the performance of the pulse power has achieved the request.Through the paper research, the reasonable design of pulse power of the electrical discharge machine has been realized, it has huge significance to improve the processing quality and the efficiency of the electrical discharge machine.
