As the simplest member of vinylformamide, N-vinylformamide(NVF) is a new type of functional monomer which has been developed in recent years. NVF can be polymerized to poly(N-vinylformamide) (PNVF) by different polymerization methods. Because of the formylamino in its molecular chain can easy-to hydrolysis with acid or alkali in the presence, PNVF becomes the main intermediates to prepare polyvinylamine (PVAm) .The thesis first synthesize Poly(N-vinylformamide) by the radical solution polymerization of NVF , take brominated method to determine the monomer conversion rate .The effect of several factors including the monomer mass fraction ,initiator concentration, reaction temperature and reaction time were investigated in detail . The best polymerization conditions were explored, and some reaction conditions to control the molecular weight of PNVF were mastered. The weight average molecular weight, rms radius, second virial coefficient of PNVF in salt aqueous solution were studied by laser light scattering method(LS), the molecular weight and its distribution as well as the chain conformation were also researched by LS-GPC technology, the equation of Mark-Houwink for the PNVF in 0.1mol/L NaCl was established by viscosimetry and LS. This will result in getting the absolute weight average molecular weight of PNVF by testing viscosity of the PNVF simply and it is very practical value.
