Fen River is the second largest branch of Yellow River. Also it has the largest drainage area and is the longest river in Shanxi province. During the recent forty years,with the population increasing and the social economy developing,many industrial wastewater and municipal wastewater flowed continuously into Fen River and made the water quality got worse and worse. Yu-men river is one of the branches which can infect the water quality of Fen River.The study analyzed the character of pollution fountain and contamination first. Then the water quality and malodorous black grade of Yu-men river were evaluated in this paper. Also the water quality model was established by using an appropriate model. The water environmental capacity in Yu-men river was computed subsequent- -ly.According to the water quality monitoring results of Yu-men river in the last two years,the assessment of water quality was made by using entropy comprehensive index assessment method and the evaluation model based on matter element and extension sets. The results both showed that Yu-men river was polluted seriously. Those also shown the main contaminative indexes of this river were organic contamination and sulfide. Qian bei village section was the most serious polluted section.Malodorous black phenomenon is one of the important characters of the water quality in Yu-men river. The study evaluated the malodorous black degree of the river. The result showed that malodorous black phenomenon got more and more serious as the river flowed. This conclusion indicated that industrial wastewater and municipal wastewater flowing into river was the primary reason for water quality deteriorating. In view of time malodorous black phenomenon got worse when rainy season coming. Because lots of pollutant were brought into river by rain water. The paper advanced some measures after analyzing.Based on the flow characteristics,the water quality model was established by use of Streeter-Phelps model. Water quality model coefficient was also identified by single-parameter estimation method and steepest descend method. Validating was also done by making use of the monitoring data.The calculation using maximal excess multiple went under eighty percent of flow can be assured. This study provided the amount of pollutant should be cut and some measures to make it carry out.This study can offer important gist for the long programming of the water environment comprehensive recondition of Yu-men river, in the meantime,its thought and method can be used in the similar work of other areas for reference.
