The choices of cutting parameters have an important influence on machining efficiency, machining quality and machining cost. In the NC program, the cutting parameters are always very conservative with the consideration of safety, so that the efficiency is reduced. Using existing NC machining equipments, cutting parameter optimization can increase the efficiency and guarantee the machining quality, which is important to improve the machine ability of the equipments and produce great economic benefits. For NC turning, this paper focus on the research on the optimization of cutting parameters based on virtual machining technology.This thesis research on the structure of cutting parameter optimization system based on the analysis of system function needing, then designed the cutting database for providing data.This thesis established the optimization mathematics model and the constraint rules which opposing to different machining conditions The optimization variables are federate and spindle revolutions, and the corresponding objectives are the maximum power and the maximum roughness. To fit the characteristic of machining process optimization, Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used to optimize the cutting parameters based on the research on the parameters'reasonable choosing of GA.To get the necessary parameters for the calculating of cutting force predicting model and other optimization models, this thesis focus on the research on the method of getting the cutting parameters by cutting out polygon, which is the intersection geometry between workpiece model and cutting tool swept volume. This section is based on the virtual machining technology , especially the simulation of material removing process. The parameters including cutting depth and workpiece diameter and other important parameters which are get from the NC program.Based on the virtual turning system, an optimization system of NC turning cutting parameters is developed on Microsoft VC++6.0 environment. Using the optimal NC program and origin NC program, turning experiments are carried out and the experiment result shows that the optimal cutting parameters can increase the effect of machining efficient and fill the requirement.
