To ensure that the enterprise has a rapid response capability for flexible market, and the desire of economic and technological benefits, enhancing enterprise competitiveness, many manufacture departments introduced advanced manufacturing technology one after another. However, NC technology is the foundation and core of that. It is of a very positive sense for ensuring product quality and tool life, improving production efficiency and economic benefits for reasonable choice of cutting parameters in NC cutting. However, the condition of establishment of cutting parameters in many enterprises is not satisfactory, the reason is that cutting parameters technician selecting are too conservative. Consequently, the performance of cutting tools and machine tool has not been fully utilized, posing lower production efficiency and Serious waste. For NC turning, this paper focus on the research on the optimization of cutting parameters and carrying out the following work.1) Clarified the general structure of expert system of optimization of NC turning parameters, and divided the system with several modules with modularization method,then designed the function of each module and operating method. As a result, system structure was concise and clear, and reserved the possibility for the subsequent development.2) Turned the cutting parameters optimization problem into a mathematical model of multi-objective optimization, then came up with several indicators of optimization. Taking into account the current business requirements the maximum productivity indicators was set to the objective function. Detailed description of genetic algorithm theory and concrete operational processes, then prove the reliability of genetic algorithm through a Instance of calculus.3) Analysis of the expert system’s knowledge sources, built the knowledge base. Designed the inference mechanism according the characteristics of the system, divided tool module, cutting fluid module and cutting parameters module, and explained the running order of the modules.4) The development of system adopt object-oriented programming. Utilizing the powerful visualization capabilities of VC++, the system design a simple, friendly interface, which makes information exchange between users and system more convenient and simple, it is also accord with the trend of software design. On the basis of the above work, build the expert system of optimization of NC turning parameters using the Visual C++and SQL Server2000. The system used the artificial intelligence technology to select cutting parameters, integrating the idea of genetic algorithms, database technology and expert system, achieve the optimization of cutting parameters under certain constraints. The workflow of the system is the following:using the human-computer interaction, first user choose the machine parameters, workpiece parameters and processing requirements and so on, then the system use the stored expertise and common-sense knowledge of machining, combined with a certain amount of interference strategies, figure out the applicable tool, cutting fluid information and optimization of cutting parameters. Validating the system through the running of exemplification, the system was proved to be practical and feasible, which can be used to guide the practical production, improve processing efficiency, and receive good economic results.
