The cotton fiber as a kind of textile material have been widely applied in many fields, but it also has many disadvantages, such as easy to crease, easy deformation, poor moisture release and ultraviolet resistance so on. The keratin is a kind of resourceful biopolymer. It has special physical-chemistry property and physiological function. The keratin is extensively used in textile field. Treating textile fibers and fabrics with keratin is one of the hot subjects in the domain of textile.Firstly, the wool fiber is oxidized and decomposed with the NaOH and H2O2 solution, and the optimization process parameter of dissolution was studied, and the products extracted were characterized. The cotton was oxidized with sodium periodate solution to get oxidized cotton fabrics. Then the raw cotton fibers and the oxidized cotton fibers were all treated by wool keratin solution, and their structure and properties were comparatively investigated. Meanwhile, their wrinkle resistance, water-absorbing function, anti-uv properties and washing fastness of the oxidized cottons treated by keratin solution were also explored. The results show that the covalent group directly occurred between oxidized cotton fibers and keratin. The crystallinity and mechanical properties of oxidized cotton fiber changed after keratin treatment. The wrinkle resistance, water-absorbing function, anti-uv properties and washing fastness of the oxidized cottons somewhat increased after keratin treatment.
