With the rapid economic development,a large number of resources consumption and enormous pressure on the environment,the sustainable development of the economy was constrained by resources and environment.Recycling of resources,not only could reduce the burden on the environment,but also can increase the economic benefits of related industries.The paper is about the recycling of sericin.China is a big producer of silk and silk used for fabrics should take off the majority of sericin.Wastewater containing many sericin direct discharge easily lead to excessive COD value,so recycling of silk is of great significance for achieving energysaving,emission-reduction and sustainable development in silk industry.Meanwhile sericin as a valuable natural protein with moisture,anti-rash and other excellent performances,was studied and applied in skin care,medical,textile fabrics fields.Sericin used for textile fabrics can improve wettability of fabrics,meeting with people's multi-functional requirements of fabrics and concept of green consumption.The paper aims to develop high quality and multi-functional cotton.By reusing sericin supplemented by chitosan,we achieve multifunctional finishing to prepare antibacterial and skin-friendly cotton fabrics.In this paper,firstly we prepare oxidized cotton fabric with aldehyde group by selective oxidation.Then the oxidized cotton fabric was finished by sericin and chitosan.The amide in chitosan and sericin could react with the aldehyde in oxidized cotton fiber for fixing on cotton fabric.In this paper,sericin,chitosan and chitosan/sericin composite finishing were investigated and evaluated by content of aldehyde groups,Breaking strength,antibacterial rate,wettability H value,stiffness R value and whiteness.The structure of the fabric and the morphology of the fiber surface were analyzed by FT-IR and SEM respectively.The conclusions were as follows :(1)The optimum process for the oxidation of cotton fabric with sodium periodate was: concentration of Na IO4 1.5 g / L,temperature 55 ?,oxidation time 2 h.The aldehyde group content of the oxidized cotton fabric was 0.032 mmol/g,breaking strength 434.1N,and the strength loss 29.6% and whiteness was 64.51.(2)The sericin finishing on the oxidized cotton fabric,the padding process with high efficiency was applied.By orthogonal experiment the process was optimized as concentration of sericin 50g/L,curing-condition at 110? for 1min.The treated cotton fabric had H value 9.9cm,wettability increased,whiteness 50.21,R value 2.02,breaking strength 404.6N,strength loss 6.8% and weight gain rate 6.32%.(3)Chitosan antibacterial finishing on oxidized cotton,p H=4,chitosan concentration was 5-10 g / L,The treated cotton fabric had 95% of bacterial inhibition rate against Staphylococcus aureus,and the wettability,softness and whiteness are good.(4)In composite chitosan/sericin finishing,two bath processes which was padding chitosan solution firstly and padding sericin solution secondly was applied.By orthogonal experiment the process was optimized as concentration of sericin 60g/L and chitosan 10g/L,curing-condition at 100? for 2min.The treated cotton fabric had 96% and 95% of bacterial inhibition rate against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli respectively,and the H value was 9.4cm.The treated cotton fabric achieved anti-bacterial,skinfriendly product target requirements.(5)FTIR spectra showed that oxidized cotton fabrics contained aldehyde group.After sericin and chitosan respectively or composite finishing,Aldehyde group peak disappeared and imine peak formed which proved that Schiff base was formed between chitosan / sericin and oxidized cotton fabrics.The SEM micrographs revealed that the surface of the oxidized cotton fibers showed oxidation spots and grooves.After sericin finishing,the points and grooves disappeared and sericin film formed.After chitosan finishing,the surface of oxidized cotton fiber formed chitosan polymers.After composite chitosan/sericin finishing,the fiber surface became smooth and silk film formed.
