The dynamic monitoring of land use and vegetation coverage by remote sensing is an all-round and real-time means by which we can take the reins of land resources. Traditional land use dynamic monitoring was mostly implemented by manual investigation. But the method is time consuming and low efficiency. With the development of RS and GIS techniques, more and more researchers are taking these high techniques to monitoring the condition of land use and vegetation coverage.This paper takes the QiPanJingKuJi which located in erdos as an example. Bases on the RS and GIS techniques, makes use of the ETM and SPOT data, to implement the monitoring of land use and vegetation coverage in QiPanJingKuJi. Throughing the fieldwork in research area and combining the image characters, confirm the interpretation system of land use and vegetation coverage. Base on the system, taking the contact encoding as the method. Withdraw the RS information of research area. And then, based on these works, use the GIS to conduct the overlapping analysis of the two phases'data. Attain the transforming matrix of land use and vegetation coverage. And then analyze its dynamic tendency. Meanwhile, use the landscape ecology indeces to measure the dynamic change quantificationally. Consequently, reveal the tendency of the land use, vegetation coverage and landscape pattern change in QiPanJingKuJi area.The use of 3S techniques in monitoring dynamic change in the land use and vegetation coverage providing us a timely and accurate way to study the change process of land use,vegetation coverage and landscape pattern in QiPanJingKuJi. It is meaningful for the reasonable exploitation and protection of the environmental recourses in this area.
