Cyclodextrins(CDs)are cyclic oligoacchrides, consisting of 6(α),7(β) or 8(γ)units of 1,4-linked glucose. They have been widely investigated because of their toms-sharp structure which consists of a hydrophobic cavity and a hydrophilic outer side.In the last decade,CDs(especiallyβ-CD and its derivatives)were found to be able to include water-insoluble organic compounds to form inclusion complexes which can dissolve in water and undergo reactions in the aqueous medium, such as polymerization, hydrolysis, and oxidation. In this study, polymerizations of methyl methacrylate/hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HP-β-CD)complex(MMA/HP-β-CD)were carried out under UV irradiation in aqueous solution with Irgacure 2959(4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-phenyl-(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)ketone) as photoinitiator at room temperature. The effects of some principal factors, including UV irradiation intensity, initiator concentration, and the ratio of HP-β-CD to MMA,on the polymerization were investigated in detail.According to the experiment, the resulting PMMA precipitated spontaneously from the solution during polymerization in the absence of any precipitator.About 95wt.-%of the HP-β-CD remained in the solution after polymerization and the reusability of this residual HP-β-CD was experimentally demonstrated.Using modifiedβ-CD to fabricate oil absorption resin was also investigated.β-CD was successfully modified by GMA(β-CD-MA)in the present of catalyst DMAE Oil absorption resin consisting of crosslinked copolymer of n-octadecyl acrylate, butyl methacrylate andβ-CD-MA was synthesized. The absorption capacity of the resin was about 38 g/g for toluene, 73 g/g for chloroform, and 12 g/g for peanut oil.The oil retention was more than 94%...
