In-plane bending is an advanced plastic processing technique which controls the un-equal compressing plastic deformation of strip metal harmoniously and forces the strip metal to produce in-plane bending and forms an open circle. The incremental in-plane bending is one of in-plane bending processes, and it is a free forging process accomplishing in-plane bending process by beating the metal strip partly with the punch incrementally. Therefore, Incremental in-plane bending process is an incremental plastic deformation process. Incremental in-plane bending process is researched systematically through theoretical analysis and physical experiment in this paper. The main contents and results are as follows:(1) The effect of punch inclined angleαp, punch indentation s, strip thickness t0, pitch p and strip width w0 on strip bending radius is researched systematically by physical experiment.(2) The formula of forming force of incremental in-plane bending is deduced by slab method. Moreover, the distribution of main stress with strip length x and width z in possible three instances is revealed when the parameters is fixed.(3) The formula of tangential stress, radial stress and thick stress is deduced by equilibrium differential equation and plastic condition. Moreover, the distribution of each stress is revealed. For calculating each stress, the formula of strain neutral layer radiusρ0 and strain neutral layer inside displacementδis deduced. The achievements of this study have important theoretical value and practical significance for the development of the unequal in-plane bending deformation theory and the formulating of bending deformation scientifically.
