The automatic analytical method to measure Chemical Oxygen Demand(COD) in seawater is researched and established through experiments by adopting Ozonation Chemiluminescence in this article. The method is based on the phenomenon that organic substance oxidized by ozone can generate Chemiluminescence. This method can determine seawater COD by means of utilizing differences of Chemiluminescence luminosity between water sample and blank. It totally abandons the disadvantages of traditional methods realized by manual analysis, such as operating complicatedly, easily causing artificial errors, consuming more time and reagents. It realizes an automatic online analysis of Chemical Oxygen Demand in seawater in real time, and it is also a method of 'green analysis' which is beneficial to the environment. Accordingly, this method has a good analysis and application prospect in oceanic analyzing and supervising field. The structures adopted in the method are all established through experiments in this paper. This method makes the solution of ozone generated by ozone generator with electrolytic type which the concentration is known as oxidizing agent, and Chemiluminescence as detecting system. The methods of generating steady concentration and raising oxidative degree generated by ozone generator with electrolytic type are analyzed base on the structures in this paper. This paper also analyses the optimum analytical condition, reagents concentration , the Chemiluminescence detecting, collecting signal of data processing system and the elimination of error. The optimum analytical condition is confirmed based on the analytical method, the accuracy of which is tested by contrasted experiments on site. The results show that the method is easy and quick to operate and has high sensitivity. For practical water sample, comparing this method to the standard manual method, it is indicated that the determination results are identical well, and this method is suitable to monitor the practical seawater on line.
