A bridge bearing is an important composition of bridges. The damage of bridge bearing will cause the damage to bridge, causing the cracking and damage to the beam, and affecting its service life and causing the potential safety problems, and seriously it would cause significant traffic accidents. Friction and wear behavior of 1Cr18Ni9Ti/PTFE and 1Cr18Ni9Ti/UHMW-PE were studied on a PLINT wear tester in this paper. Worn morphology of the specimens was observed by means of an Optical Microscopy (OM), a Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (CLSM) and SEM. The study emphasis was given to the effects of normal load, sliding speed and test environment on friction and wear behavior. The following results were obtained.Under the small displacement and dry friction conditions: Normal stress is a main factor that affects friction and wear behavior of 1Cr18Ni9Ti/PTFE. Under the lubrication conditions, the sliding speed has a clear influence on the coefficient of friction. Increasing sliding speed favors formation of lubrication films to decrease coefficient of friction.Under large displacement and dry friction conditions: The coefficients of friction of two materials decrease with an increasing of load. The friction coefficient of 1Cr18Ni9Ti/UHMW-PE is 0.03-0.045 higher than that of 1Cr18Ni9Ti/PTFE. Under dry friction condition, there is few wear volume when 1Cr18Ni9Ti rubbing against UHMW-PE but there is a few wear volume when 1Cr18Ni9Ti rubbing against PTFE. The wear volume of 1Cr18Ni9T/PTFE is increased with increasing load. Under dry friction condition, the coefficients of friction of two material increase with increasing load. Friction coefficient of 1Cr18Ni9T/UHMW-PE is 0.04 higher than that of 1Cr18Ni9T/PTFE. Under dry friction condition, the wear volume of 1Cr18Ni9T/PTFE is increased with increasing sliding speed.Under large displacement and lubrication conditions: The coefficients of friction of two material decrease with an increase of load. The coefficients of friction of two materials are nearly equivalent. The friction coefficient of 1Cr18Ni9T/UHMW-PE is only 0.005 higher than that of 1Cr18Ni9T/PTFE. Under lubrication conditions, coefficient of friction of two material decrease with an increasing of sliding speed. Friction coefficient of 1Cr18Ni9T/UHMW-PE is 0.005-0.012 higher than that of 1Cr18Ni9T/PTFE. The larger the sliding speed, the smaller the friction coefficient.
