Titanium silicalite (TS-1) has been shown to be an efficient catalyst for the epoxidation of olefins with hydrogen peroxide. The epoxidation of propene has been investigated to some extent and proved to be a clean and economically viable alternative to the existing processes for propene epoxide production. In this work, TS-1 was synthesized by using organic Ti and Si sources, tetrapropylammonium hydroxide as template and characterized by FT-IR, XRD and SEM. TS-1 was calcined at different conditions. The results showed that TS-1 synthesized with organic Ti and Si sources had the typical characteristics of TS-1, i.e., with elliptic shapes and particle sizes of 0.2-0.3μm; TS-1 should be calcined at 550oC for 5 h; high temperature calcinations might affect its activity in the epoxidation of propene; TS-1 calcined in different atmospheres had no effect on the epoxidation of propene. The results also showed that addition of 1, 2-dichloroethane in the reaction increased not only the conversation and utilization efficiency of H2O2, but also the selectivity to PO. Under the optimal conditions, the conversation and utilization efficiency of H2O2 and the selectivity and the yield of PO were 97.8 %, 99.5 %, 99.4 % and 97.21 %, respectively.TS-1 catalyzed propene epoxidation was also studied at normal atmosphere with simultaneous separation of the reaction products. Under the optimal conditions, the conversation and utilization efficiency of H2O2 and the selectivity and the yield of PO of 95.3 %, 98.44 %, 85.32 % and 81.53 %, respectively, were obtained.
