When fiber-reinforced resin composites are used, one of the factors to decrease their mechanical properties is moisture absorption. Accordingly, many researchers have tried to solve this problem. The objective of this work was to investigate the moisture absorption behavior of EP matrix material, UH_L/EP composite and CF_L/EP composite with both experimental and finite element approaches. The factors affecting the moisture absorption behaviors of CF_L/EP composite were studied. The results could provide some theoretic data to help the composite be better used in aerospace, mechanical and medical industries.Firstly, the calculation parameters of the finite element mode were obtained through experimental method. The method was to measure the weight gains of the above three specimens in a certain environment, and then draw up the moisture absorption curves. Then with the mass diffusion module of finite element analysis code ABAQUS, the moisture distributions in EP matrix material, CF_L/EP composite and UH_L/EP composite were analyzed at T=37°C and RH=100% condition. The results coincided well with experiment data, based on which the residue stress in the composites can be studied in the future. Moreover, the effects using different fiber distribution models were indicated, and the influences of the factors such as environment temperature and medium on the moisture absorption behaviors of CF_L/EP were also simulated. The results demonstrated that random fiber distribution model could be better than the hexagonal one. At 80°C the moisture absorption rate and the maximum moisture content were greater than them at 37°C. Immersion medium also had a great influence on moisture absorption behaviors. The moisture absorption curve did not follow the Fick's law when exposed to 10%HCl solution. The simulation results fitted well with the experiment data, which showed the feasibility of ABAQUS. The simulation method also successfully solved the time cost problem in experiments.
