Aromatics is an important and basic raw material in petrochemical industry. Aromatics of high purification is industrially obtained by extraction, which is an adult technology, removing non-aromatics from the feed by contacting with the solvent. Whereas, first step research and contrast shows remarkable difference between process simulation data and published on-site counterparts. In this research, a prediction method for binary interaction parameters and industrial data are adopted to adjust the pertinent binary interaction parameters of the built-in thermodynamic methods in ASPEN PLUS. When the flowsheet is set up in the software, sound consistency is obtained between the simulated and industrial, showing availability of the model for process package.Aromatic extraction, mentioned above, involves sulfolane solvent and water, causing non-ideal and consequently difficulties for process simulation. In the trial simulation, the internal parameters of Aspen Plus model are found not suit for the system. In this situation, only on-site or experimental vapor-liquid equilibrium data is reliable for the calculation, but most of them are unavailable. This difficulty turns the research to select reasonable and feasible thermodynamic models from all the available ones in the software, which can describe the stream data well, or at least closely. When the closest model is found, the next task is to improve it to the best fit by adjusting the built-in parameters. According to some published literatures, equilibrium data can be estimated or predicted from UNIFIC groups, witch give initial data to start out. I When all the above work is done, UNIQUAC is used to extraction tower and scrubber tower, GRAYSON is used to raffinate oil scrubber, WILS-RKto water stripper, NRTL-RK to recovery tower. On contrast with the on-site process data, the process simulation set up in the software with the adjusted thermodynamics well and is believed can offer process package data for certain feed.
