The compositions and properties of cracking C9 arenes which were the important byproduct from process of producing ethylene were briefly introduced in this paper.The current situation,application and highly processed technologies of cracking C9 arenes were simply summarized.At the same time,the prospect and the economic value were presented,as well as styrene's extensive uses and preparation methods at home and abroad.The method which combined continuous vacuum distillation with extractive vacuum distillation was adopted to refine styrene fraction from cracking C9 arenes,which could be used to prefect the highly processed technologies of cracking C9 arenes.Experimental apparatus of single stage vapor-liquid equilibrium was set up.Vapor-liquid equilibrium datum of solvents and cracking C9 arenes were measured and simulated.Dimethyl sulfoxide was selected as the best solvent.The result will be provided for extractive distillation experiment and simulation of refining styrene fraction from cracking C9 arenes.Continuous vacuum distillation was simulated by Aspen Plus,and the conditions of simulation such as number of column plates,reflux ratio,output rate,plate of input and bottoms pressure were studied.The experimental apparatus of continuous distillation was established,and experimental study was carried out on the basis of theoretical simulation data,which was obtained by Aspen Plus simulation.The experimental results showed that the purity of styrene was 62.31%with the yield of 95.90%.Extractive vacuum distillation was simulated by Aspen Plus as well,and the conditions of simulation such as solvent ratio,reflux ratio,output rate,number of column plates and plate of input were studied.Under the optimized conditions,the purity of styrene reached 99.80%and the yield reached 95.57%.The experimental apparatus of extractive vacuum distillation was set up,and experimental study was carried out on the basis of theoretical simulation data,which was obtained by Aspen Plus simulation.The experimental results showed that the purity of styrene was 98.77%with the yield of 97.23%.The method which combined continuous vacuum distillation with extractive vacuum distillation was adopted to refine styrene fraction from cracking C9 arenes.In the optimal conditions,the purity of styrene was enhanced to 98.77%,and the total yield can be achieved to 83.91%.The result of this work will be provided for further research.
