Oily wastewater is mainly from the oil, the metal, the food, the textile and transport industry and so on, which will deteriorate water quality and cause serious hazards if discharged without any treatment. Moreover, most of the oil recovered from the water can be used as chemical material. Therefore, it is necessary and urgent to actualize the oily wastewater treatment and recycling. In this research, a vertical oil water separator, which is filled with a kind of surface-hydrophilic-modified terylene filament fiber, was designed to treat oily wastewater.Subsequently, the influence of the influent velocity and concentration on the effluent concentration and the efficiency of oil removal were investigated. The effect of the oil concentration to the removal of the diameter of the oil drop in wastewater was also observed and analyzed under a constant influent velocity. On the base, the preliminary mechanism of the fiber filter media was discussed.Under these conditions it was observed that: (I) the effluent concentration was increased slowly while the influent velocity increased range from 0.77 to 2.00L/min, and in this case oil removal efficiency was more than 90%, and the oil concentration of the effluent was varied from 24.22mg/L to 42.19mg/L; (Ⅱ) the efficiency of oil removal the effluent concentration could reach 4.6mg/L, when the influent concentration varied from 20mg/L to 1000mg/L and the influent velocity was set at 1.54L/min; (Ⅲ) the removal percentage of the oil drops, whose diameter were smaller than 10μm, was more than 96%.
