The granulation and shape control of ceramic corundum abrasives were investigated by using planetary ball mill, ball mill, vibration mill, stirred mill, double roller crusher and adopting hammering breaking method. The single particle compressive strength of abrasives grits which were granulated by different granulation methods were analyzed systematically by using diamond single particle compressive strength tester. The different breaking machine's main parameters which influence the grain shape and size distribution of abrasive grits were analyzed by SEM, particle image processor and screen mesh.The results showed that single particle compressive strength of abrasive particles was influenced intensely by granulation methods. The grain shape and size distribution of abrasive grits were affected remarkably by different breaking machine's main parameters. The grain shape and size distribution of dry gelatum particles were controlled effectively by adopting proper ratio of material to grinding media, shapes and sizes of grinding media, rotational speed of planetary ball mill. Not only regular grain shape but also centralized distributions of grits size were controlled availably by employing proper cylinder rotational speed, ball milling time, ratio of material to grinding media, shapes and sizes of grinding media of ball mill. The grain shape and size distribution of dry gelatum particles were controlled effectively by adopting proper vibration milling time, ratio of material to grinding media and shapes and sizes of grinding media of vibration mill. Regular grain shape and good size distribution of abrasive grits were produced by adopting proper stirred milling time, ratio of material to grinding media and shapes and sizes of grinding media of stirred mill. The acicular ceramic corundum particles were produced by choosing double roller crusher and hammering breaking method.
