In recent years, development in automobile and mechanical industries tremendously results in the increase of demand for high quality lube oils, and therefore, demand for base oils II and III, which are used to make high quality lube oils, has been skyscraping. For such reasons, there has been a great necessity to undertake detailed and systematic analysis on the structural compositions, oxidation stability process and anti-oxidation performance of various base oils so as to have a clear understanding of the difference in their oxidation stability, which can provide theoretical basis for the research and development of high quality lube oil products. We briefly summarized the research in chemical composition and anti oxidation stability of API group II and III base oil, and have a basic knowledge about the development of this study. Base on this summarization, a systematical study about the chemical structure of different base oils from LAN Zhou Petro-chemical Company, Daqing Petro-chemical Company, Kelamayi Petro-chemical Company and Mobil Petro-chemical Company through column chromatography, mass spectroscopy had firstly be carried out. And the relationship between the chemical composition and anti oxidation stability of base oils is also studied. The results indicate that we got a deep understanding of their chemical structure, this apply us credible data for the study of relationship between chemical structure and oxidation stability. The anti oxidation stability of the base oils were investigated through RBOT, oven oxidation and PDSC experiments, the change of base oils in character and composition were also studied.
