Gas assisted injection molding (GAIM) is an innovative molding technical developed in the 1970's and entered the stage of practical in the 1990's. It has the advantage of both foam molding and injection molding, which provides greater flexibility and freedom of plastic product design and production. Due to the introduction of gas, the melt flow has become very complex, and the difficulty of CAE analysis is increased. Based on the study of cross-section temperature distribution of gas-channel, improved finite element model of equivalent gas-channel are constructed in the paper. And it come out that using the improved model, the as-assisted injection molding finite element simulation accuracy can be improved.Three levels and six factors L18 DOE via Taguchi method is used to study the effect of processing parameters. Multiple regression statistical analysis routine is programmed to analyze the result data, consequently the influence regular of process parameters is obtained.By mean of studying vertical angle and T shaping gas-channel cross-section temperature distribution, equivalent beam and shell element of different section shapes of gas channels are derived and three mold simplify methods are proposed, which can improve temperature deviation in CAE analysis caused by the thin rib part.The study also shows that, in order to avoid fingering effect, the minimum ratio of the channel radius to part thickness is two.The proposed CAE methods and regular method are used to analyze two printer cover plates, and comparative analysis in each group is carried out. Significantly improved analysis results by the second and third model are observed in both groups. The prediction of shot size, gas penetration and gas delay time is much closer to actual situation than regular method, thereby the CAE can be a effective guidance on product design and process design.
