Nowadays chlorine-containing bleachers are widely used in flax bleaching industry, of which sodium hypochlorite bleacher is mostly used. During the process of chlorine-containing bleaching, facilities are eroded and employees' health is jeopardized to a certain extent, and the bleaching wastewater seriously pollutes the environment. Therefore, developing new chlorine-containing bleachers and assessing its environmental impact is beneficial for both economics and environment to developing a novel chlorine-free bleacher for development of new types of bleacher and its applications.In this paper the LCA model of production, transportation and use of the novel chlorine-free bleacher was established and the LCA models of the sodium hypochlorite bleaching process and the novel chlorine-free bleaching process were compared. For the novel chlorine-free bleacher, defined its purpose and scope; analyzed of the raw material input and enviromental discharge output listing and arranged the list analysis data; established LCA model; calculated environmental impact potential and standardized and weightedly evaluated the data; finally found the enviromental burthen of the novel chlorine-free bleacher and interpretated its lifecycle. The sodium hypochlorite bleaching process and the novel chlorine-free bleaching process are researched; data of the LCA of the novel chlorine-free bleaching and sodium hypochlorite bleaching techniques were collected, the data were classified and quantified to the list. And Level analytic method was used to assess the environmental, technical and economic benefits of two techniques.The study indicates that for the novel chlorine-free bleacher, among production ,transportation and use , these 3 stages , the stage of use brings a significant impact on environment. Besides comparing the factors of cost , technique and impact on environment with traditional bleacher, it is more environment friendly, effective and economic. The conclusion can be referred to on selection of bleaching technique and constitution of relevant laws and regulations. for reducing the negative influence of environment and achieving a sustainable development.
