GMAW has been widely applied because of its many advantages. In this paper, the computer simulation of GMAW process is studied. Firstly the basic theory of system simulation and general process of simulation experiment are described. The role of math model, the method to make it and the character of simulation are discussed, which are the base of making model. Mathematics modeling of welding process is the base of process control to realize highly level digitization of welding process. The mechanism of drop transfer of GMAW was deeply analyzed in this paper, Factors was analyzed of influence drop transfer from respect of welding condition. The power supply and arc system simulation model, the arc nonlinear load simulation model and the arc length simulation model were established. Then the simulation mode for the process of GMAW is developed with above three simulation models by the MATLAB software which is used widely by the international control field. In the transfer model, the molten drop is considered as metal globe which attached at the wire tip. The simulation mode directly and efficiently indicates the features of the dynamic process of GMAW by means of visual modeling graph. The simulation value and variable trend graph of welding parameters are obtained by the system simulation. Namely, the arc length changed with the welding voltage and wire feed speed, etc. The computer simulation results are consistent with the welding process dynamic parameters. The results of computer simulation not only are verified by experiment results, but also accord with correlative theory analysis. At the end of this disse rtation, the conclusion is put forward that the simulation model is reasonable and the computer simulation of GMAW drop transfor process is viable.
