This paper firstly introduced the main type and function of underground natural gas storage. And then it summarized the present situation and the trend of development of domestic and foreign underground gas storage, pointing out the economic and strategic significance of development. It also described the present development situation of Jintan salt-cavern underground gas storage in our country, which is typical. The papaer introduced the principle and concept of making cavity with water-solution and summarized the factor of affecting water-soluble cavity making rate. It analyzed the engineering geology condition and the existing well cavity situation of Jintan Salt Caverns, through which brought forward feat cavity constitution. It also analyzed the cavity making craft of Jintan gas storage, summarizing the simulation process of cavity shape by dividing it into six stages. And the control method of cavity shape had been investigated. In addition, it proposed the design principle of cavity making tube and the arrangement rule of cavity making well head. Describing the entire cavity making procedure in detail, it made thorough research on certain key technique such as the roof protecting technology and so on.This paper studied the control technology during the the cavity making process of Jintan salt-cavern proposing the control principle of pressure, displacement, protection fluid, flood water, briny water and monitoring instrument. It also presented the monitoring/maintenance standard of cavity making tube and the volume /shape of the salt caverns. The method of well logging was also stated. At the end of this paper it analyzed the application prospect of Jintan salt-cavern gas storage, summarizing the trend and potential of underground gas storage development in our country.
