In recent years it will play a special role in steelmaking using scrap steel as the main raw material. It is inevitable that the contents of low melting point metallic elements in the recycled steel might become highter than the original steel and it is hard to remove the elements of Sn, Pb and Sb which gather on the grain boundary in the conventional process of steelmaking. The tramp elements tend to make the steel products deterioration, sensitive to the surface cracking and temper brittleness. Therefore, there are lots of reseach on the remove of the low melting point metallic elements in steel. Rare earth are the minority elements which can react with Pb, Sn and other deleterious elements. But there is few related report, whether or not the Ce-Pb compound can be formed in steel, on the reaction between the rare earth cerium and the low melting point metallic lead. The production between cerium and lead in the infiltrating experiment using vacuum resistance furnace, of which raw material contain the massive cerium, the granulated lead and the filings of H08, have been studied in this paper. The fusing experiment have been carried out by KSS-16G high temperature energy conservation tubular resistance furnace. The specimens have been analysed by means of OM, EPMA and XRD.The experimental result shows that the cerium atom can diffuses along the boundary of austenite in H08, react with iron to produces intermetallic compound Ce2Fe17 in the infiltrating experiment and react with lead to produces Ce5Pb3 which is easily oxidized. The Ce3Pb, which distribute unevenly, can be formed in the enrichment zone of cerium and the CePb, which distribute evenly, can be formed in the enrichment zone of lead, there are a few of Ce5Pb3 in the fusing sample.
