The rare-earth strontium aluminate luminous fiber was a new functional fiber which made use of rare earths as the luminary and our country has the independent intellectual property right. Its basic material was polyethylene, polyamide or polypropylene, and in order to make accumulating luminous fiber, we transplanted rare-earth strontium aluminate into the base of the fiber appending functional agents. If the fiber absorbed any visible light only for a few minutes, it could shine gorgeously for more than 10 hours in the dark. Moreover, it could avoid environment pollution without dyeing. The luminous fibers have been realized in the industrialization production. But the afterglow properties of this fiber were not satisfied. So we take the luminous fiber as the object of our study, and carry out systemic and overall research on the excitation and emission, utilizing modern methods of testing. This paper mainly includes several parts as follows:First of all, we analyze the inner structure of this luminous fiber using modern testing methods, such as TEM, SEM and XRD. The study showed that: the distribution of rare-earth strontium aluminate particles were random, the micro-morphology of colored luminous fiber was very similar to each other. The rare-earth strontium aluminate and fiber materials had no effect on each other, but the red inorganic transparent pigment results in lattice changing of rare-earth strontium aluminate.Secondly, we analyzed the influencing factors for excitation and emission process of luminous fiber. The results show that: polyester fiber material and inorganic transparent pigment hampered the energy absorption and emission of rare earth strontium aluminate; Excitation light decided the energy reserve saturation point and the time to reach this point of luminous fiber, Environmental temperature impacted the decay rate and intense luminescence of the fiber. Finally, luminescence properties were characterized use of fluorescence spectra- meter, spectral scanning color meter, and illuminometer etc. The results show that: the luminous center of white, yellow and blue luminous fiber were Eu2+, luminous center of red luminous fibers possibly changed to Dy3+. Colored luminous fibers have similar attenuation law, including fast, middle and slow decay processes, compared with rare-earth strontium aluminate, the illuminance of fiber decreased, but the afterglow life increased. The hue of luminous fiber was decided by the rare-earth strontium aluminate, the hue of white, red, yellow and blue luminous fibers was yellow-green, yellow, yellow-green and green, respectively.
