Because of high degree of hardness, big brittleness and small thermal conductivity, hard alloy is grounded by grinding with diamond wheels generally. But the grains of conventional diamond grinding tools , such as single-layer electroplated and resin-bonded grinding wheels, are easily to be pulled out and the wheels fail too early during grinding because the grains just bond to the wheel sub-state through low physical incrustation effects between the bonding layer and the grains. The single-layer brazing diamond tools using the strong chemical bond formed between diamond grits and brazing alloy has drawn lots of researchers'interests. But brazing diamond wheel under vacuum has some flaws: long time under high-temperature needed, big deformation of wheel and thermal damage to diamond grits when brazing, which affects the further development of brazing diamond tools. High-frequency induction heating has high heating-speed which can reduce the heating time greatly and realized the automation easily, has broad application prospect. The equipment of atmosphere protection for brazing diamond by high-frequency induction was designed ; the techniques of brazing diamond was studied and this new kind of brazing diamond grinding wheels were developed by high-frequency induction with Ni-Cr alloy filler in this paper. The experiment of grinding YG6 by the wheel is conducted. By analysis of grinding force and grinding force ratio, the sharpness of wheel and the degree of difficult–to-grinding are studied; by the attritional experiment of diamond wheels, the attrition modes and service life of the wheel are studied. The grinding surface quality and material elimination'function are analyzed by surface roughness and the scanning electron microscope observation. The results indicated that the brazing diamond grinding wheel by high-frequency induction with Ni-Cr alloy filler can applied in the grinding of hard alloy with longer service life, higher sharpness and good grinding surface quality. These gradual achievements will make strong foundation for the high effective and precise grinding of difficult-to-grinding materials with brazing diamond wheels.
