In this dissertation, red and yellow electrophoretic particles are prepared and applied to electrophoretic display (EPD).Nano-Fe2O3 particles, with diameter 30nm, are obtained when FeCl2·4H2O and NH4HCO3 are fully ground in the presence of surfactant PEG-600 via solid-state reaction at room temperature. This dissertation also discusses the relationship between the temperature and the particles color. CdS particles, with diameter 60nm are prepared from 3CdSO4·8H2O and Na2S·9H2O with the same method. In water, Fe2O3 particles and CdS particles coated by SiO2 are obtained through Na2SiO3 hydrolysis. This dissertation studies the relationship between the amount of Na2SiO3·9H2O and the thickness of SiO2 layer. Then the surface of CdS particles and Fe2O3 particles are modified by coupling agent SB-570, and the yellow electrophoretic particles with negative charge are obtained. In alcohol, red composite particles with positive charge are synthesized from neopentyl glycol dimethacrylate (NPGDA) and acrylamide (AM) via random graft polymerization (RGP).The red electrophoretic particles are mixed with yellow particles and white particles respectively, and double-particle suspending fluid is prepared. Red-white electrophoretic displayer filled with the suspending fluid is made. Microcapsules are prepared through complex coacervation method, with gelatin-gum Arabic as wall material, and the above red-white suspending fluid as core material. The particles electrophoretic mobility is observed in the microcapsules. The method of preparing polymer continuous phase is also studied.
