In this thesis, a strain of bacteria that used for the phenol degrading was isolated from acclimated activated sludge, and was identified as a member of Pseudomonas putida. Behaviors of substrates biodegradation were carried out under different conditions and the optimal temperature and pH for phenol were specified as: 30℃and pH=7.0±0.2, respectively. Moreover, air can facilitate the substrate degradation course. In order to enhance the capacities of Pseudomonas putida to degrade phenol, magnetic field was utilized. The influence of static magnetic field on the performance of the growth of bacteria was an innovation in this study. According to the result, the optimal intensity of magnetic field was 50 Gs.The characters of phenol biodegradation were contrastively studied with and without 50 Gs magnetic field. Their maximum phenol biodegradations were 2400 mg/L and 2000 mg/L. Kinetics study was performed using phenol as the sole carbon and energy, the initial phenol was varied from 0 to 2400 mg/L and 0 to 2000 mg/L, respectively. Haldane type substrate inhibit model was used to simulate the cell growth on phenol, as for the substrate degradation. The contribution of substrate degradation on the cell growth, as well as the cell maintenance and product formation was considered. The MATLAB software was used to nonlinear regression and got the model parameters. The result showed that the models can well describe the experimental results.
