Free radical copolymerization was used to synthesize alternating copolymer SMA, P(St/CS-alt-MA) and multi-block copolymer PSt-b-PAA. In addition, we studied the self-assembly behavior of the polymer and application in emulsion. SMA and P(St/CS-alt-MA) copolymers were synthesized by free radical polymerization in dioxane and were characterized by means of FTIR, 1H-NMR, GPC and DSC. The micelle solutions of copolymers were prepared in the selective solvent by self-assembly. The micellization behavior of copolymers were studied by means of UV, Fluorescence spectrophotometer, DLS, and TEM. The results showed alternating copolymers can be self-assembled into regular sphere micelles. The micellization, hydrodynamics radius and cratical water content were influenced by polymer initial concentration, pH of solution, salt concentration and irradiation condition.Amphiphilic copolymer PSt-b-PAA was synthesized by micelle copolymerization in aqueous medium. FTIR, GPC and DSC were employed to characterized the structure and molecule weigh of the polymer, which showed that the polymer was a kind of multi-block copolymer. We studied the emulsion properties stabilized by polymer micelles acting as solid particle emulsifiers. Tolune was employed as the oil phase and oil-in-water(O/W) emulsions were obtained. Furthermore, the influence of pH, salt concentration and irradiation on emulsions was studied.
