Foundry products are widely used in our daily life. Casting charging ratio always directly determines the castings quality and material cost, whereas most of the traditional ingredients charging methods used in casting depend on engineers'experiences and manual calculation. Hands-on show that these methods always involve time-consuming and labor-consuming calculation process, and are inclined to produce inaccurate results.With the improvement of computer technologies, it is possible to automated calculate the proportion of charges in a melting process more quickly and more accurately by using a computer software. However, the calculation speed and precision heavily depends on the solving algorithms used in the software. A good algorithm can counteract the shortcomings of manual calculation or experience, increase the accuracy and quality of castings, lower scrap rates and significant cost savings.This paper reviews the principles of several state of the art effective optimization algorithms for casting charging, and then, introduces the development of a charging mixing system by utilizing two of the mature and effective optimization algorithms: equation solving algorithm and exhaustive algorithm. A software package for the calculation of the foundry charging mixing, called HZFCS is developed. Such functions as automated charging mixture, manual charging mixture and charging mixture before melting are all implemented in HZFCS. Burning loss is also considered to minimize the mixture cost in this software. Several practical industrial applications of HZFCS are presented. Applications demonstrate that accurate and fast charging mixture can be achieved by HZFCS system, indicating that charging mixture software could play an important role in foundry industry.With fast solving speed and high precision accuracy, the HZFCS system, which optimizing the object cost as solvable object function, could readily yield charging mixture with minimum cost, proven to be a practical tool for foundry engineers.
