This article is aim to find the cause of the forward girder failure problem by Finite Element Method (FEM) tool then optimism its structure. The forward girder is a key part of Traction hydraulic press material processing system, there are five column holes and twelve cavum in it; and many holes on it surface too, the structure is very complex. The forward girder is affected by ingot heat and partly cracks frequently. FEM is the most effective way to solve this question.FEM can solve mathematics and physical equations effectively, including thermal, structural and magnetic fields problem. Finite element CAE analysis software is a result which the computer technology, numerical theory combined with FEM development. It is the most ideal tool to do finite element analysis. It can adapt to structure complex, variety of loads, linear or nonlinear Structural Failure problem. Design parameter model to optimization part structure dimension.The article divides into three major parts: Thermal analysis, thermal-stress analysis and structure size optimization.Thermal stress is the efficient amse of girder crack. So, thermal analysis and structural analysis was carried at first. Thermal analysis results were processed to temperature field and thermal gradient, getting thermal expansion trend and heat transfer direction from thermal analysis. Structural analysis results were processed to displacement and stress field. Distortion trend and process, distribution of stress were revealed by Structural analysis; detect the possible location of crackThermal stress analysis is the basis of structure optimization. Thickness of girder is the key dimension. This article create parameter model using ANSYS parameter design language (APDL), through a series of analysis to different dimension model and corresponding post processing, get the optimization structure at last The finite element structure failure analysis and structure optimization design is completely quantitative. Result is high reliability and solution scope is broad, this method becomes a trend in material process, machine design manufacture field.
