Important as arc welding process is in the manufactural, its fume has great effect on people and environment. So this paper presents the research on forming fume influenced by process parameters in GMA Welding.From JIS and experimental requirements, pick device of welding fume is designed. In order to study characteristics of welding fume, two welding material including solid-cored and flux-cored wire, as well as some meltdrop transfer mode are adopted in this experiment. Welding fume particle size is measured under different meltdrop transfer and welding parameters by light scattering technique and FOQELS and then the influence of GMA welding parameters on welding fume particle size distribution is pointed out.This paper has analyzed the formation mechanism of welding fume,in response to characteristics of different drop transfer such as particle transfer ,short circuiting transfer and spray transfer,and determinates forming rate of welding fume under different welding parameters, then presents the research on fume forming rate influenced by process parameters in GMA welding and the description of reducing welding fume. In addition, the ingredients of welding fume are tested.The research indicated that, fume forming rate of flux-cored wire is relativly large, and its fume is easily absorbed by people; fume forming rate and particle size of solid welding wire have different characteristics under different drop transfer.This research on GMA welding fume may play an important role for effectivly preventing welding fume and reducing the harm of welding fume.
