Dense chrome bricks are made from chrome powder which is spraied into granule, and pressed into flans through cold isostatic pressing, then fired through long-playing high temperature. Because they have excellent resistance to E-glass fouling and have no pollution to fiberglass, they are used in sidewall of tank, bottom of tank and main channel of the tank furnace of fiberglass. They are most important refractory material in Direct-Melting E glass Furnace. Though dense chrome bricks have been produced in some companies at home and abroad, non companies can increase thermal shock resistance of dense chrome bricks. Dense chrome bricks often produce crackles or brust in drying and working of the tank, so it affects the quality of fiberglass and the lifetime of tank.In order to make tanks of fiberglass have good quality and high output, lower energy consumption and long lifetime, this paper investigates the variation of apparent porosity, volume density, cold compressive strength, thermal shock resistance of a dense chrome bricks with Zircon addition, and analyzes reasons of the variation of physical properties according to scanning electron micrographs. It turned out that thermal shock resistance of the dense chrome bricks with zircon additive has unconspicuous change, but apparent porosity, volume density, room teperature compressive strength and microstructure of dense chrome bricks have obvious changes.
