The test standards about primary aromatic amines and azo dyes of the electrical and electronic products has not been established at home and abroad. The universally applicable analytical methods about primary aromatic amines and azo dyes in variety of plastic components of the electrical and electronic products, needs further study. At the same time, the establishment of methods can provide technical and theoretical support for countries to develop the technical requirements to protect the interests of domestic enterprises.LC/MS has many features such as abroad analytical area, better separation, low detection limit, short analytical period, high automatic degree etc . With the development of the LC/MS technology and the appearance of the LC/MS instrument ,LC/MS has been the more promising analytical means in the thermal instable organic chemicals. A method for the simultaneous determination of 26 aromatic amines and 23 kinds of primary aromatic amines decomposition by the azo dyes by high-performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry was studied. The method was introduced into the determination of the 26 aromatic amines in plastic components of the electrical and electronic products. The aromatic amines were extracted using dichloromethane, acetone and methanol etc..Then the extracted solution was concentrated and solved in methanol for HPLC-MS analysis. The instrument condition is that: the column of ZORBAX Eclipse XDB-C18, 25cm×4. 6mm×5μm , mobile phase of acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid solution, flow rate of 0.6 mL/min and detection by SIM. The linear ranges of these aromatic amines varied from 0.1 to 10 mg/kg with correlation coefficients of 0.997 or better. The detection limit of the method was less than 0.05 mg/kg and the recoveries ranged from 61% to 110% with RSD in the range of 0.23%~14.87%. The experiment indicated that aromatic amines originating from plastic components could be qualitatively and quantitatively detected by HPLC-MS. The satisfying effect of the SIM chromatograph separation was testified by the experiment. The method shows good stability and reproduction quality, and turns out to be practical and feasible way for detection.
