At present, the degradation of COD in the paper industry wastewater is widely concerned by the world. It is very important to find a excellent treatment on it.The COD degradation efficient of different algae in a straw-based paper industry wastewater was investigated. The algae include Green Algae(Scenedesmus obliqnus 416,Chlamydomonas microsphaella 52,Chlamydomonas reinhardi 479,Chlorella vulgaris Beij 31,Chlorella phyrenoidosa 9,Pandorina morum 463,Eudorina sp.331), Diatom(Cyclotella meneghiniana kutz 1031,Navicula incerta),Euglena intermedia var.412,Euglena gracilis klebs 848,Chaetoceros muelleri 862.After 18 days incubation, the degradation by C.meneghiniana kutz 1031 and N.incerta were the best(87.09%and 88.18%respectively).And,the comparison of different of initial concentration of algae, temperature and initial concentrations of COD in paper industry wastewater were done, and 106 cells·mL-1,20℃and middle concentration(1520mg/L) were the best choice. At the same time, the influence of element Si on the diatom degrading COD in a straw-based paper industry wastewater was investigated. The results show that the element Si has no obvious influence in this course. These results indicate that algae, especially diatom, may be a useful organism in the degradation of COD in paper industry wastewater.
