In this paper, the theory and experiment on magnetic abrasive finishing (MAF) is studied. The MAF equipment which is suit for MAF on the inner cylinder surface processing is designed. In order to analyse the effects of various factors on the performance of magnetic abrasive finishing, some experiments are did. At the same time, attempt the rapid solidification atomization and sintered methods to make magnetic abrasive grains.The major works in this paper can be divided into four parts:1. The processing mechanism study on MAFIn this paper, the applied force of a single and the whole magnetic abrasive grains is analysed. The processing mechanism of magnetic abrasive finishing is the combine of action of micro-cutting, extruding, plastic deforming, chemical corroding and electrochemical wearing.2. The design of MAF equipmentThe phenomenon of the magnetism-shield is studied and the magnetic work reamer is designed which is suit for big thickness of inner cylinder surface processing of ferromagnetic material. The mathematic expression is given about the influence of magnetic field intensity by thickness of inner cylinder. The magnetic work reamer is inside of the work. The surface of magnetic work reamer is designed with equal space between groove. The permanent magnet is embed in the groove.3. The experimental study on MAFThrough the experimental, the effects of various factors on the performance of magnetic abrasive finishing during the process are studied. The factors are magnetic strength, machining clearance, machining time, rotating speed of the workpiece, movement of axial feed and so on. A series of experiments were conducted and the changing curves and best values of each factor on the performance were determined. The experimental results could be used as a guide of the practical application of the magnetic abrasive finishing.4. The study on making methods of MAF.The making methods of magnetic abrasive grains are studied by the numbers, and then attempt the rapid solidification atomization and sintered methods to make magnetic abrasive grains. The problems in the making process are analysed and studied. At last, some valuable conclusions are concluded(The factor of performance of magnetic abrasive finishing which are influenced by different granularity of magnetic abrasive grains,different inverse proportion.)...
