Azobenzene is one kind of active compound with favorable optical properties. A series of polymers containing azobenzene moieties were synthesized and studied on their nonlinear optical properties both in research and application area. In this thesis, a series of azo-compounds with different conjugate structure and polymers containing azo-moieties were synthesized and their nonlinear optical and electric memory properties were studied.1. A series of azo-compounds containing anthraquinone were synthesized and introduced into acrylate monomer. Through polymerization of these monomers, polymers containing azo-anthraquinone moieties as pendant group were synthesized. The third-order nonlinear optical properties and electric memory properties of these polymers and the corresponding monomer were studied.2. A series of bisazo-compounds were synthesized. The effects of substituents and conjugation length on their optic-electric properties were systematically studied.3. Polyurethane containing bisazo side chain was synthesized through the reaction of Toluene diisocyanide with diol compounds with bisazo pendant. The electric memory device based on this polyurethane was processed and the electric memory properties were studied.
