Antimicrobial Treatment Of Wool Fabrics Using Cationic Surface Active Agents

It is studied in this paper that applying the quaternary ammonium salts as antibacterial agent to endow the wool fabrics with durable antibacterial activity according to the chemical structure of wool fabrics and wool molecule.The antimicrobial treatment of wool fabrics are finished by dripping treatment using quaternary ammonium salts.The influences of their chemical structures,pH values of treatment solutions,concentration of them,treatment temperature and treatment time on uptake of the agents are investigated by the methods of spectrophotometer and dyeing-spectrophotometer.The best finishing technics of a ring-shaped structure quaternary ammonium salts and aliphatic quaternary ammonium salts are discussed.The more-quaternary ammonium salts and the single-quaternary ammonium salts are discussed too.The test of wool fabrics is according to GB/T 20944.1-2007 Textiles-Evaluation for antibacterial activity-Part1:Agar diffusion plate method and Part2:Absorption method.The antibacterial activity is shown as zone of bacterial inhibition and resistant bacterial rate.The perdurable antibacterial performance is tested after washing.The other applied performances,such as the degree of white and mightiness,are tested too.The results showed that the wool fabrics,which are finished with quaternary ammonium salts have perfect antimicrobial performance.The resistant bacterial rates are all beyond 90%.Three-alky1 three-quaternary ammonium salt and poly-oxygen-ethylene quaternary ammonium salt are the best.They are all over 80%after washed 15 times.The antibacterial treatments effect the applied performances(such as the degree of white and mightiness)less.The applied performances are all good too.
