Through absorption of bromine vapor, the electrical conductivity of poly(phenylacetylene)(PPA) was enhanced by 1012 times.UV-Vis spectra, and XPS spectra were used to study the p-Ï€conjugation and the conducting mechanism in bromine doped PPA.The experiment indicated that the bromine anion and charge transfer complex(CTC) formed in bromine doped PPA could promote the conductivity. The experiment illuminates that increase of the pressure can promote the conjugation between PPA and bromine and the increase of the temperature leads to the decrease of the p-Ï€conjugated formation in PPA to reduce the conductivity.MWNTs/Bromine/Polyphenylacetylene Ternary Composites were prepared by mechanical blending and solution blending methods, exhibiting high electrical conductivity of Bromine doped MWNTs(Br doped MWNTs) 10 S/m.Through the use of ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra(UV-Vis),X-ray spectroscopy(XPS),and scanning electron microscope(SEM),we studied the interaction of MWNTs,Bromine and PPA,and probed the formation of individual conductive units and their influence on the conductivity of the composites. Our study indicates that when content of MWNTs is low the transfer of bromine from PPA to MWNTs can decrease the conductivity of the compositess;when content of MWNTs is high, the conductivity of the composites enhance greatly with the increase of the conductive units.
