The performance of the cooling stave is the most significant factor of the blast furnace's life. The copper/steel composite cooling stave has great practical value, while the copper stave has poor strength and the steel stave has low thermal conductivity. However, the work ability and feasibility of production of this newly developed stave yet to be seen.In this paper, the heat transfer model of the stave is established. Its temperature field and stress field is simulated by using ANSYS. Analysis of the working situation in different conditions is given, and the effects of different factors on the temperature and stress are shown. The conclusion that the new stave is able to meet the requirements is declared by calculating the maximum temperature in the worst conditions. The comparison of the maximum tensile stress at the interface and the data of actual production demonstrate the feasibility of its production. In this paper, blast simulation tests and on-site measured data compared with the simulation results verifies the reasonableness of the model. In addition, contrast different cooling effect of the different structure by the simulation parameterization point out several optimization suggestions. The above results not only have important theoretical and practical value on the longevity of the cooling stave, but also provide guidance and basis for the design and manufacture of the stave.
