The sand and clay are usually used in China municipal solid waste landfill as daily cover. This will cause economic wasting and problems of technology implementation, so the choose of daily cover is very important in municipal solid waste landfill. In this subject, natural dry samples of composted refuse in DeYang City compost shed were used as daily cover in indoor simulation experiments. By the basic properties of sand and arged refuse, the same and different points of leachate removal mechanism were involved. Then, the best particle size, the optimal thickness and the optimal structure were conclused by means of simulated experiments on soil column. Finally, a primary technical path of daily cover with arged refuse was brought forward.The results show that arged refuse has a good property of adsorption and can modulating pH. And the fines in arged refuse sieved can be used in semi-aerobic landfill sites with leachate recycling as daily cover. And besides the conventional functions, it also has the ability of purifying the landfill leachate.The best particle size is d≤3mm, and its removal rate of COD and ammonia nitrogen was better than the other sizes. The optimal thickness of arged refuse used as daily cover is 13cm by the soil column experiment of differenet thickness in the best particle size. Double layer structure is better than monolayer structure in the ability of nutrients removement.The study result shows that fines in arged refuse can be used in semi-aerobic landfill sites with leachate recycling as daily cover, which has not only the functions of deodorization and flies isolation, but also the abilities of purifying the landfill leachate. This study gives a new idea to the choosen of daily cover in semi-aerobic landfill sites.
