Hollow integrated sandwich composite, as a new kind of 3D-woven sandwich composite, not only provides excellent integrated mechanical properties and structural advantage, but also be cost-effective. Hollow integrated sandwich composite overcome the defects of poor skin–core debonding and impact resistance in comparison with traditional foam and honeycomb sandwich composite.It is and will be more and more widely used in the producing and manufacturing of boat hulls, aircraft wings, oil tankers, inner compartment materials, insulated car and soon. Relevant research and marker promotion are both in the phase of beginning in the nation, a mass of experimental and theoretical research are needed to develop this kind of composite. The topic have a research on structure designing and molding of hollow integrated sandwich composite and lays more emphasis on in-depth research between heights and mechanical properties of hollow integrated sandwich composite. The main research contents consist of the following three parts.(1) The design and preparation of hollow integrated sandwich composite. design is based on choose of crude materials, performs(hollow integrated fabric)structure and resin system; Regarding the preparation of hollow integrated sandwich composite, we realize the weaving of hollow integrated fabric through reforms based on traditional rapier and special method. Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion was used to mold the hollow integrated fabric. Finally, hollow integrated sandwich composite with different heights are prepared for mechanical experiments.(2) Mechanical experiments of hollow integrated sandwich composite. Specimen with four heights (including 2mm,4mm,6mm,8mm) are chose, referring to National standards, we performed its basic mechanical experiments(including Flatwise compression, side-tension, shear, bending and side-compression) and get the experimental results of those.(3) Research on relationships between heights and mechanical properties of hollow integrated sandwich composite. through the comparison and analysis to mechanical experiments results , it shows that, with the increase of height, Flatwise compression and shear properties go worse ,while side-tension, side-compression and bending properties go better. With mechanical experiments results and experimental observation, the topic gives an in-depth study on relationships between heights and mechanical properties and get some beneficial conclusions.
